Typica

Also known as: Typica-Varietät

One of the oldest cultivated Arabica varieties, from which many of today's coffee varieties descend.

Typica goes back to plants that travelled from Ethiopia via Yemen to Asia and were taken from there to the Caribbean and Latin America in the early 18th century. A large share of global Arabica cultivation descends genetically from this narrow base.

The plants grow tall, yield comparatively little and are susceptible to coffee leaf rust. Typica is valued for a clean, sweet and balanced cup. Because of its low yield it has been replaced in many places by more productive varieties.
