Dust (tea)

German: Dust (Teestaub) Also known as: Dust, Teestaub

The finest leaf grade of tea, made of very small particles, which brews especially quickly and is used mainly in bagged tea and instant products.

Dust is the smallest sieve fraction in tea sorting, finer still than fannings. The particles are almost powder-like. They arise during processing or are produced deliberately by the CTC method.

Dust releases colour and compounds within a short time and is therefore suited to tea bags, food service and extracts. The liquor is strong but usually less nuanced. Dust has nothing to do with matcha, a deliberately ground green tea.
