Tea bag
Share
German: Teebeutel Also known as: Beuteltee, Doppelkammerbeutel, Pyramidenbeutel, Tea Bag
A portioned bag of filter paper or other material containing tea or herbal/fruit infusions, usually filled with fine leaf grades.
Tea bags spread in the early 20th century, first in the USA. In Germany, the company Teekanne developed the double-chamber bag in the mid-20th century, which lets more water reach the tea. Bags are usually filled with fannings, dust or CTC tea, which brew quickly and strongly.
Besides paper bags there are pyramid bags for coarser leaves, partly made of plastic or bioplastic. Bagged tea is convenient and precisely portioned, but usually offers less aromatic variety than loose leaf tea. Steeping time still matters.
