Espresso macchiato
Share
German: Espresso Macchiato Also known as: Macchiato, Caffè Macchiato
An espresso crowned with a dab of milk foam, so it contains only a little milk.
Macchiato means stained or marked: the espresso is topped with just a small spoonful of milk foam or a dash of milk. The drink thus remains strong and close to pure espresso, with the milk taking off only a little sharpness and bitterness.
The espresso macchiato should not be confused with the latte macchiato, where the ratio is reversed and milk predominates. In some coffee chains the term macchiato is also used for sweetened milk drinks.
