Samovar
Share
German: Samowar Also known as: Samovar, Sawarka, Teekonzentrat
A metal water heater with a tap on which a small pot of strong tea concentrate is kept warm; typical of Russian and Iranian tea culture.
The samovar, Russian for "self-boiler", is a vessel for heating water and keeping it hot. It was formerly heated with charcoal via an inner tube, today mostly electrically. On top sits a small pot of very strong tea, the zavarka.
To serve, some concentrate is poured into a glass or cup and diluted with hot water from the tap, so everyone can choose the strength. Samovars are common in Russia, Iran and other countries. In Turkey the double-decker teapot çaydanlık is customary.
