Milk coffee (café au lait)

German: Milchkaffee (Café au lait) Also known as: Café au lait, Café con leche, Melange

A coffee drink of coffee and hot milk in roughly equal parts, traditionally drunk from a bowl in France.

Classic milk coffee consists of strong filter coffee mixed roughly one to one with hot milk. In France it is called café au lait and is often served in a large bowl at breakfast, ideal for dunking bread or pastries.

In German cafés milk coffee is often made with espresso and served with milk foam, so it resembles a large cappuccino. Related drinks are the Spanish café con leche and the Viennese Melange.
