Flowery Orange Pekoe (FOP)

Also known as: FOP, GFOP, Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe

A leaf grade for whole-leaf black tea of young leaves with a certain share of leaf buds (tips).

The "flowery" in Flowery Orange Pekoe refers to young, tender leaves and a share of buds, known as tips. These turn light to golden yellow during processing. FOP teas have a finer leaf than simple OP.

The grade is found mainly for teas from India, Sri Lanka and China. Further letters describe higher tip shares: GFOP (golden), TGFOP (tippy golden) and above. The classification is not internationally binding and can differ by origin.
