Keemun

Also known as: Qimen, Qimen Hongcha, Keemun-Tee

A Chinese black tea from Qimen County in Anhui province, known for a soft, fruity, malty aroma with cocoa notes.

Keemun, Chinese Qimen hongcha, has been produced since the late 19th century in Qimen County in southern Anhui province. The region was previously known for green tea. The leaves are fine, dark and tightly twisted.

The liquor is reddish and tastes mild, with little astringency and notes of dried fruit, cocoa or flowers, sometimes with a slight hint of smoke. Keemun is drunk plain and was a classic component of English breakfast blends. Known quality levels include Hao Ya and Mao Feng.
