Autumnal flush
Share
German: Autumnal (Herbstpflückung) Also known as: Autumnal, Autumnal Flush, Herbstpflückung, Monsoon Flush, Rains Tea
The autumn harvest after the monsoon, mainly for Darjeeling and Assam; the teas are usually darker, softer and rounder than earlier flushes.
After the first flush in spring, the second flush in early summer and the rainy season, when so-called monsoon or rains teas are picked, a last plucking follows in autumn, the autumnal. In Darjeeling it falls roughly in October and November.
Autumnal teas usually have a darker leaf and a coppery liquor. They taste mild, round and often slightly sweet or woody, with less freshness than the first flush. They are popular as everyday teas and in blends.
