Caturra

A compact Arabica variety, a natural mutation of Bourbon from Brazil, widely grown in Latin America.

Caturra was discovered in Brazil in the first half of the 20th century as a natural mutation of the Bourbon variety. The plants stay short and compact, so they can be planted more densely and harvested more easily. This leads to higher yields per area.

In flavour Caturra resembles Bourbon, with lively acidity and medium body, especially from higher elevations. The variety is susceptible to coffee leaf rust and has served as a parent for numerous newer cultivars.
