Semi-skimmed milk

German: Fettarme Milch Also known as: Teilentrahmte Milch, Milch 1,5 %, Fettarme Milch 1,5 %

Semi-skimmed drinking milk with a fat content between 1.5 and 1.8%, in Germany mostly sold at 1.5%.

Semi-skimmed milk is produced by removing part of the cream from raw milk in a centrifuge. Under EU law it must have a fat content of at least 1.5% and at most 1.8%.

It tastes somewhat thinner than whole milk but contains almost the same amount of protein, milk sugar and calcium. Fat-soluble vitamins such as A and D, however, are present in smaller amounts. Semi-skimmed milk is available as fresh milk, ESL milk and UHT milk.
