Whole milk

German: Vollmilch Also known as: Vollmilch 3,5 %, Milch mit natürlichem Fettgehalt

Drinking milk with a fat content of at least 3.5%, either standardised to this value or with its natural fat content.

Whole milk is the richest of the regular drinking milk types. Under EU law it must contain at least 3.5% fat. Either the dairy standardises the fat content to this value, or the milk keeps its natural fat content, which is then stated on the pack.

Thanks to the higher fat content, whole milk tastes fuller and creamier and is well suited for milk foam. It is sold as fresh milk, ESL milk or UHT milk. Protein and calcium content hardly differ from lower-fat types.
