Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP)

Also known as: BOP, BOPF, GFBOP

A leaf grade for broken black tea; the smaller leaf pieces quickly give a strong, dark liquor.

In Broken Orange Pekoe the leaves have been broken or deliberately cut during processing. The pieces are much smaller than OP but larger than fannings. Thanks to the larger surface they release colour and tannins more quickly.

BOP is one of the most common grades in the trade, for example for Assam and Ceylon teas, and is popular for strong blends such as the East Frisian. Variants include BOPF (Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings) or GFBOP with golden tips.
