Ceylon tea
Share
German: Ceylon-Tee Also known as: Ceylon, Ceylontee
Tea from Sri Lanka, formerly called Ceylon – mostly black tea, mild to strong depending on altitude.
Sri Lanka was called Ceylon until 1972; the name Ceylon tea has remained. Tea has been grown there on a large scale since the 19th century, after a fungal disease destroyed the island's coffee plantations.
Roughly, high-grown, mid-grown and low-grown teas are distinguished: high-grown teas are considered finer and fresher, low-grown ones stronger and darker.
