Geisha (Gesha)

Also known as: Gesha, Geisha, Panama Geisha

An Arabica variety from south-western Ethiopia that became famous mainly through cultivation in Panama and is known for floral, tea-like aromas.

The name goes back to the area around Gesha in south-western Ethiopia, where the plants were collected in the 1930s. Via research stations in East Africa and Central America the variety reached Panama. There a coffee from the Boquete region made it internationally famous at a competition in 2004.

Geisha is regarded as distinctly floral, with notes of jasmine, bergamot and citrus and a light, tea-like body. Because of low yields and high demand it often fetches very high prices. The name has nothing to do with Japan.
