Drinking yoghurt

German: Trinkjoghurt Also known as: Joghurtdrink, Joghurt zum Trinken, Drink-Joghurt

Liquid, drinkable yoghurt, usually with fruit preparation or flavourings, which under German law has a defined dry-matter content.

Drinking yoghurt is fermented like yoghurt with typical yoghurt cultures but is kept liquid by stirring and a lower dry-matter content. In Germany, the dry matter of the ready-to-drink product must be between 10 and 20% and the fat content no more than 5%.

In shops, drinking yoghurt is usually sold in bottles or small shots, often with fruit, sugar or flavourings. The sugar content varies greatly from product to product. It should be distinguished from yoghurt drinks that, as milk mixed products, often have a lower yoghurt content.
