Also known as: Nilgiri-Tee, Nilgiritee
A black tea from the Nilgiri Hills in southern India that tastes fresh, fragrant and mild and is harvested almost all year round.
The Nilgiris, the "Blue Mountains", lie in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India. Thanks to the climate, plucking is possible almost all year; harvests from the cooler season are especially valued. Tea is produced both by the orthodox and the CTC method.
Nilgiri tea is usually bright, fresh and slightly floral or fruity, with mild astringency. It resembles Ceylon tea more than Assam. Because the liquor hardly clouds when it cools, it is considered well suited to iced tea and blends.
