Genmaicha

Also known as: Reistee, Popcorn-Tee, Genmai-Cha
A Japanese green tea mixed with roasted rice grains, giving it a nutty, cereal-like taste.
Genmaicha consists of green tea, usually bancha or sencha, and roasted rice grains. Some grains pop during roasting and then look like small popcorn. Originally the blend was regarded as an economical everyday tea in which rice replaced some of the tea.
The liquor is pale yellow and tastes mild, toasty and nutty with little bitterness. There are also variants with added matcha that are greener and stronger. Genmaicha is brewed with hot but not boiling water and a short steeping time.
