Pasture milk
Share
German: Weidemilch Also known as: Weidemilch 120/6, Weidehaltung, Pro-Weideland-Milch
Milk from cows with regular access to pasture; the term is not legally defined and is guided by industry standards.
Pasture milk is meant to come from cows that spend part of the year grazing. There is no legal definition in Germany. A common industry standard requires the animals to be on pasture on at least 120 days a year for at least six hours. Courts have used this as a guide.
More extensive programmes and labels sometimes impose additional requirements, for example on pasture area or housing. Organic associations often require longer grazing periods. Which criteria apply in each case can only be seen from the information on the pack or the respective programme.
