German: Kaffeesteuer Also known as: Kaffeesteuergesetz, KaffeeStG
An excise tax in Germany on roasted and soluble coffee; it amounts to 2.19 euros per kilogram of roasted coffee and 4.78 euros per kilogram of soluble coffee.
The coffee tax is governed by the Coffee Tax Act (Kaffeesteuergesetz) and collected by customs. Roasted coffee and soluble coffee, including decaffeinated forms, are taxable, as are coffee-containing goods according to their coffee content. Green coffee is not affected. The tax generally arises when the coffee leaves a tax warehouse or is brought in from another EU country.
The rate is 2.19 euros per kilogram of roasted coffee and 4.78 euros per kilogram of soluble coffee. VAT is charged on top. The coffee tax is a national tax that is not levied in all EU countries.
