Honeybush

Also known as: Honigbusch, Honeybush-Tee, Cyclopia

A caffeine-free infusion from South African Cyclopia shrubs that smells of honey and tastes mild and sweetish.

Honeybush is obtained from the leaves, stems and flowers of various Cyclopia species growing in the Cape regions of South Africa. The plant owes its name to the honey-like scent of its flowers. As with rooibos, the plant material is cut, moistened and oxidised, but there is also green, unoxidised product.

The liquor is amber, caffeine-free and low in tannins, and tastes sweetish, floral and slightly fruity. Honeybush is sold plain or flavoured and counts legally as a herbal tea.
