Doppio

Also known as: Doppelter Espresso, Double Shot, Espresso doppio
A double espresso, made with roughly twice the amount of coffee in the double basket of a portafilter.
Doppio is Italian for double. For a double espresso the larger basket is filled with about twice the amount of ground coffee, and correspondingly more drink runs into the cup. The extraction time stays similar to that of a single espresso.
In many modern cafés the doppio is the basis of almost all espresso drinks because the double basket extracts more evenly. A doppio is not the same as a lungo, where only more water runs through the same amount of coffee.
