Sekt (German sparkling wine)
Share
German: Sekt Pronunciation: zekt Also known as: Qualitätsschaumwein
Quality sparkling wine with higher carbon dioxide pressure, made by a second fermentation in bottle or tank.
Sekt is the common German term for quality sparkling wine. It is made from a base wine that undergoes a second fermentation, with carbon dioxide remaining bound in the wine. This happens either in a tank or in the bottle (traditional bottle fermentation).
Sekt has a minimum alcohol content and higher bottle pressure than semi-sparkling wine. Additions such as Winzersekt or Sekt b. A. indicate origin and method of production. Taste ranges from brut nature to mild and is set by the dosage. The applicable regulations are decisive.
