Empty-container sorting

German: Leergutsortierung

Separating returned empties by bottle type, manufacturer and crate type for return to bottlers and breweries.

In empty-container sorting, returned empties are separated by bottle type, crate and owner. Pool bottles and crates can be returned mixed, while individual bottles and foreign crates must be set aside and assigned to the respective bottler.

Cleanly separated empties are the prerequisite for deposits being settled correctly and for breweries and bottlers getting their containers back. Damaged or dirty bottles and crates are removed. In larger operations this is partly done by machine, in smaller ones by hand.
