Abbreviations on wholesale invoices
Share
German: Kürzel auf Großhandelsrechnungen Also known as: Rechnungskürzel, Artikelkürzel
Wholesalers abbreviate item names heavily – MW, DPG, PG, DS or 20ER tell you about deposit, packaging and contents.
Item descriptions on cash-and-carry and beverage wholesale invoices are limited to a few characters, so deposit, packaging and pack size are encoded in abbreviations. Common ones:
- **MW** – returnable (Mehrweg), **EW** – one-way, **DPG** – one-way deposit (Deutsche Pfandsystem GmbH) - **DS** – can with deposit, **DO** – can without deposit, e.g. crisps - **PG** – pack, e.g. a juice carton (no deposit) - **LOSE** – loose bottles without a crate - **20ER** – 20 pieces per pack, **OP** – original pack, **XL**/**XXL** – larger cigarette pack - **9,00E** – retail price printed on tobacco packs, in euros - **O.Z.** – without additives (tobacco)
Selgros lists quantity, content and packaging in separate columns: “24 1 FL A” means 24 × 1 bottle. Packaging codes include FL (bottle), BT (bag), BE (cup), PG (pack), GL (jar), KA (carton) and SG (carton of 10 cigarette packs). The trailing letter probably marks the price type: A offer price, R regular price, Y customer special price.
Brand abbreviations (LS for Lucky Strike, LRZ for Lorenz) and the wholesaler's private labels come on top. Some are ambiguous: “FL” usually means bottle, but on Metro snacks it stands for the private label Fine Life.
