Eisbock
Share
A very strong beer made by freezing water out of a Bock, resulting in a concentrated flavour and more alcohol.
Eisbock is a speciality made from Bock or Doppelbock. The beer is cooled until part of its water freezes to ice. The ice is removed, leaving a more concentrated beer with higher alcohol and extract content.
Depending on production, Eisbock often reaches roughly 9 to 14 percent ABV and tastes rich, sweet-malty and wine-like, with notes of dried fruit, liqueur and caramel. The bitterness is well integrated. Because of its strength and intensity it is served in small measures, much like a dessert wine. The term is sometimes also used for beers from which water was removed in other ways.
